Liz McGrath is renowned for her ‘collection’ of five star ‘Relais and Chateaux’ hotels in the Western Cape. In appreciation, her family has dedicated this rose to her, and like the hotels that bear her unique stamp, it radiates elegance, charm and character.
The tight urn shaped buds display a touch of green over the bronzy golden base indicating firmness of petals and longevity. Once the petals start unfolding the clear bronze on the petal reverse contrasts exquisitely with the light gold on the inside of the petals. It takes days before row after row of petals unfold into a full-bodied bloom reminiscent of the historic roses. The bronze colour of these extremely long lasting blooms take on an apricot hue adding liveliness to a bush in full bloom. The medium length, sturdy stems carry the flowers upright and are ideal for home decoration, exuding a distinct spicy fragrance.
It is a beautiful garden rose, dense and rounded, growing to chest height with healthy, deep green foliage and masses of blooms, borne in clusters as well as on individual stems. New flowering stems continually replace the faded blooms deep into winter.
A portion of the sales of this rose will be donated to Mrs McGrath’s selected charity.
