Roses at the Cape of Good Hope

Additional information

First published in 1988, this book comprises many years of research and a personal involvement with old roses at the Cape, as well as the people associated with them.

Ludwig says: “We first met about 60 years ago. The effort to restore the old rose garden at the Boschendal Wine Estate got her deep into looking and finding the old rose varieties on farms and graveyards, researching their history of how and when they arrived in the Cape and what they meant to the families involved. It filled a huge book that has been published with so much evident passion.

Husband Gawie took the magnificent photos and daughter Jenny is keeping many of these historic rose varieties in her nursery in the Grabouw region.”

This book is now available at the Ludwig’s branches priced at R800 including courrier fees.

A beautifully illustrated coffee table book, filled with rich, fascinating, botanical history.
