The deep royal blue-purple of this new rose marks the introduction of a genuine new colour in roses. ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ is an upight growing shrub rose bearing clusters of semi double blooms that open to reveal a glowing centre of golden yellow stamens.
Fresh lime green leaves offset the clear violet of the mature blooms, giving each cluster of blooms the same air of Victorian delicacy as a traditional posy of violets.
The shrub has a formal growth pattern, reaching a height of two metres, making it an excellent background rose or individual specimen. The rose takes a year to establish itself and should only be pruned down to chest height in July.
In spring it will flower all along its main stems and after the first flush will put out side stems that will also carry blooms, ensuring that the shrub keeps flowering throughout the summer.
