Autumn Rose Festival
This year we are making sure that there is plenty of rosy fun on the Autumn Rose Festival programme, whether you are five years old or 50 or even older!
Enter now: Princess Rosebud and Thorn Prince
For starters, we are looking for the prettiest Miss Rosebud in Gauteng and also the most handsome young prince. Children between the ages of five and 11 are invited to enter before Wednesday March 12.
After the crowning by Miss Earth South Africa, Ashanti Mbanga, everyone will take part in a procession among the roses, followed by a building of the rose castle.
To enter the Prince and Princess Rosebud competition please send a picture and a short piece on “Why do I love roses” to email@example.com, or drop the entries into any Ludwig’s Roses outlet; at the farm, Soleil in Lynnwood road, or Egoli in Fourways. The entry fee is R120 per child, which includes activities and refreshments. For more information contact Anja at 012 5440144.

Rose naming: ‘Madams’ Rose’ Saturday 10.30am
On Saturday morning at 10.30am I will be naming the new ‘Madams’ Rose’ in honour of Margaret and Chris Dams. They have been stalwarts of the Northern Rose Society for more than 30 years and are ‘living proof that rose growing is fun.
We chose the name because it is combination of Margaret and Chris Dams, and is the couple’s email non de plume!
It is an Eco chic rose that produces clusters of perfect little blooms, which go from peach-orange to pink and when fully open create a pretty 'petticoat' look. It is marvellously disease resistant and blooms last well in the vase.
Gardening with English Roses: Keith Kirsten, Saturday 11.00 am
Keith Kirsten has been associated with David Austin English Roses for many years and he has agreed to share his knowledge and experience with rose lovers. This is an invitation to be seduced by these glorious roses that have the most exquisite fragrance.
We have a large range of David Austin roses available on the farm and are presently growing new varieties in our trial gardens. The cost of the talk is R50 per person.

On the same weekend, Ludwig’s Roses will be joining Tanya and her team. This is also becoming a popular event on the gardening calendar.
